Inflections

The other day, while running a bit behind schedule, I was buckling Jonathan into his car seat. Jonathan was squirming and flailing.
"Please don't fight daddy," Mommy told Jonathan, "Be nice."
Jonathan then looked at me and said, "Please don't fight, daddy. Be nice!"
I smiled at that, and said "I'm sorry. I'll be nicer next time."
Jonathan's growing so fast. He's learned to play with the big kids quite a bit. He horses around to his heart's content with his cousins on Clerie's side. On my side, he'll play around with the bigger kids, inasmuch as they show interest in him, and he'll try to horse around with the smaller ones, and overwhelm them quickly.
My brother got married on Saturday, and Jonathan got to spend time with his cousins on my side for the first time in a while. Tre was very nice to him, and Jonathan paid it forward by bowling Nicholas over.
Fortunately, Jonathan is getting increasing exposure to children his age or younger, now that we've moved. I think Joy school is good for him, and he's made a couple of loose friends already. He's even learning to play "with" and not just "next to" some kids here a little bit.
His speech and verbal comprehension are frighteningly good. You have to watch what you say around him, because a few days later he'll regurgitate it. For example, we talked about airplanes, Fedex vs UPS, airbags, and a few other odds and ends on an errand we ran together on Friday. Saturday, he informed Andy and Kenzie that our car is an older car, and it has a bag behind a flap in the front. He then asked if Kenzie and Andy have airbags in their car.
One of his favorite words these days is "expensive." He hasn't pinned down what it means, but the first time we went on an express bus (as opposed to a rickety local bus), he said "this is an expensive bus." Later, he said that a word he used was "an expensive word to say."
He loves anything to do with computers, as Daddy is on computers all the time, either working from home or checking e-mail, or working on a project for mommy. His favorite programs are Paint (the Windows 7 version with the nice variety of brushes and shapes), Word, and an online Lightning McQueen racing game.
