Saturday I went on a 50-mile bike ride with Mike & Liz and Mike's scout troop. We had several flats, but the first one happened outside a bike shop. The rest happened within a quarter mile of the finish line. Fortuitous, no?
Matt did the 50-miles on a 7-speed, 20" bicycle. That's a feat for anybody, but it's amazing for someone 9 years old. The bike shop workers' jaws dropped when the found out about Matt doing the 50 miles. I think Mike felt 10 feet tall.
Meanwhile, Clerie did a 5k in Lehi with Val & Kenzie. Clerie and Kenzie took turns pushing the kids in the stroller, and both placed 8th in their categories. They each received a tee shirt with the sponsor's logo, "Gordon Family Dental." Tell you what, it's hot to see my wife walking around with a big tooth on the back of her shirt. (The tooth is yellow, ironically.)
I met up with everyone back in Lehi, and we went to the Lehi Roundup rodeo. It was a shutout on the bullriding. It's amazing how the bulls can toss the pros around like that. The part that makes me laugh is when the pickup men try to coax the bulls out of the stadium so that the next bull rider can enter. The gigantic bulls just stare down the pickup men and their horses, as if to say "Let's see you try to get me out of here." One time the bull completely psyched out one of the rider's horses, and it kept tossing its head and backing up. The bulls have such an attitude.
After the rodeo they had a DJ and music down on the dirt. The DJ was pretty bad, but the six of us (Clerie, Calee, Kenzie and the hubbies) goofed off and had a good time. Keenan taught me some really basic swing dancing stuff, and I've been practicing a bit. I want to learn to dance!
